The Island of Staffa: Home of the World-renowned Fingal's Cave (Island Tributes)
Published in Paperback by Romsey Fine Art (June, 1993)
Authors: Alastair de Watteville and Douglas Dow
Average review score:

Magnificent Representation of a Very Special Place
Illustrated with a delightful assortment of sketches, photographs, prints, engravings, and historical paintings, this booklet provides the reader with an aesthetic experience rarely found in a guidebook. Its scope is wide, from information on the geological and natural history to practical matters of accessing the island. As an added treat, literary and musical references are cited which were the result of visits to Fingal's Cave - agreeably one of nature's wonders. I was especially excited to see information on the long discontinued King George V day-steamer which I took many decades ago; it was unable to stop at Fingal's Cave due to the swells. Recently, while on a pilgrimage to Iona, I was able to make this long awaited trip. Being able to read the guide beforehand made the experience exceptionally meaningful and having it as a souvenir of my visit to the island makes it a treasure that I re-visit time and again. A quality presentation with an artistic flair. Recommended for anyone who anticipates a visit to Staffa or who would like specialized information on this unique site.

It's Not That Complicated: The Twelve Rules for Raising Happy, Self-Reliant Children
Published in Paperback by Health Communications (April, 2002)
Authors: Doug Peine and Douglas Peine
Average review score:

A MUST READ for any parent-
I received this book as a gift from my parents during a time when I was struggling with my almost 4 year old daughter. She was behaving so out of character, whining and throwing tantrums. I sent my mom an email saying "Please Help Me" and was answered with my dad sending this book that is already changing our lives. It points out the obvious problems and offers simple solutions. Reinforcing the things that you do right, pointing out what you do wrong, acknowledging that everyone makes mistakes but just try harder- Because it's not that complicated! There are only 12 rules to follow, and 3 lessons to teach - It's an afternoon easy read, and worth a million times what you'll pay for it.

Japanese Naval Aviation Uniforms and Equipment 1937-45 (Elite, 86)
Published in Paperback by Osprey Pub Co (November, 2002)
Authors: Bill Younghusband and Gary Douglas Nila
Average review score:

A cut above, even for Osprey
This is a book I highly recommend to students of WWII, aviation historians and collectors of militaria/aviation memorabilia. It is not only well researched, it is well written, concise and to the point. Whether a novice collector or a seasoned old hand, you will find information in this book, both documentary and anecdotal, that you simply won't find elsewhere. One very pleasing departure from Osprey's normal format is the use of colour photographs for the centre layouts instead of illustrations. Although Mr. Younghusband's graphics of the insignia are excellent, the colour photography, depicting authentic uniforms and flight clothing being worn, provide excellent attention to detail. Osprey books are typically great value, almost always useful and informative, but this one is a cut above. Mr. Nila has done great justice to the subject and although this is a small book, it fills a big gap on the bookshelves of WWII uniform and equipment enthusiasts.

Jesus in an Age of Controversy
Published in Paperback by Harvest House Publishers, Inc. (July, 1996)
Authors: Douglas R. Groothuis and Doug Groothuis
Average review score:

More Credit Due
I went into this book expecting a lash-out at the New Age exotica that plagues and devalues spirituality in the last few years. This intelligent young unknown named Douglas Groothuis delivers accurate and well-developed blow upon blow to the New Age movement. He deserves the recognition that usually goes to frontline clowns like Robert Funk, Marcus Borg, Calvin Roetzel and John Dominic Crossan. Not only does Groothuis detail the growth and spread of New Age, he includes chapters to increase Christian faith and expose those who attempt to play down Jesus' deity, therefore rendering Him "tame and manageable" to their own imaginations.

Overall, Groothuis shows complete control over every element of his book that needs exploration. While staying in an easy-to-understand writing style, and not without humor, Douglas Groothuis is a young author set in his ideals, and obviously shining with intelligence.

All we need now is recognition of his talent, as he should replace the members of the Jesus Seminar as "the next big thing".

John Keats: Poems

As usual...
Keats is wonderful. However, a reason to purchase *this* version over other publications is because of Jack Stillinger. He was my english professor and the man is an expert on all things Keats. It was a pleasure learning from him and his essays are always worth reading.

John: The Way to True Life
Published in Paperback by Intervarsity Press (September, 2002)
Author: Douglas Connelly
Average review score:

Makes you go through the gospel slowly and thoughtfully!
I bought this book for every member of a Bible class that I am teaching, for women new to the Christian faith. They wanted to study the Scriptures but were intimidated by going through them alone. This study was more than I can ask for. It asks thoughtful questions that cause one to pause and consider the Scripture before moving on. It even has a leader's guide in the back of the book. For the price and the content, this book is great. Don't expect long expositions on the passages, just catalyst questions that make the reader apply the meaning of the Word to everyday life. Great for discussion oriented small groups or personal study. Buy this book for every member of the group, because everyone needs their own personal copies. Great Job, Mr. Connelly!

I can't get my kids to stop playing.
This is one of the most educational and fun products I have ever purchased for my children. They are learning more Spanish than I ever thought possible and they are having a great time playing with their friends. We bought it as a family game to learn Spanish and we are delighted with the enthusiasm our children have shown in learning a new language
